At the beginning of August, local SNP MSP Kate Forbes, met with Brian Devlin at the BIC office to discuss how the trustees, staff and volunteers are changing peoples lives for the better in the Black Isle-through providing Care and Meals on Wheels.
Kate also went out on a Meals on Wheels round with trustee Genevieve MacIver:
“I had a wonderful time joining the Meals on Wheels team on the Black Isle.
The team do a fantastic job, and I loved meeting some of the customers who clearly enjoy the beautiful food and the good company of the volunteers.
Initiatives like Meals on Wheels are more needed than ever, as older folks are often isolated and lonely and it can be more difficult to cook up a feast for lunch or dinner.
The Meals on Wheels team recognised that a few years ago, and have done something about it with volunteers delivering meals to a lot of people across the Black Isle.
It was a joy to join them and I’d love to do it again.”
To our delight, Kate raised a motion in parliament on 01/08/17, to acknowledge the work of Black Isle Cares:
“That the parliament recognises the work of Black Isle Cares, to improve Care Services on the Black Isle; notes that, as well as home care, the charity also delivers approximately 80 Meals-on-Wheels per week; congratulates its chairman Brian Devlin on being awarded Board Trustee of the Year Award 2017, from Highland Third Sector Interface and recognises the intergenerational work that the charity does in order to bring young and older people together to learn from one another.”
