GENERAL QUERIES

  • Which members of the Black Isle community are able to access your services?
    We aim to help the elderly and vulnerable members who may feel socially isolated or disconnected. We cover the Black Isle area as far as the Tore roundabout.

  • How do I find the Black Isle Cares office?
    We are located in the Black Isle Leisure Centre in Fortrose, in the first room to the right after the main entrance. Our address, contract details and a map can be found on our contact page.

  • When is the office open?
    Our office is open from 9am-3pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

MEALS AT HOME

  • If I sign up to Meals at Home do I have to commit to receiving meals three days a week?
    No - you can order meals on only the days suitable for you.

  • How do I pay for my meals?
    Invoices are sent out at the end of each month.

  • How much do the meals cost?
    We currently charge £2.50 for soup, £3.00 for a dessert and £4.00 for a main meal. Fish and chips cost £6. These prices match the amounts charged to Black Isle Cares by our meal providers and there is therefore no profit element included in our charges.

  • Are you able to cater for people with food allergies and other dietary requirements?
    Yes - we liaise with our meal providers and are able to accommodate all dietary requirements.

  • I live in North Kessock. Am I able to have meals delivered to my home?
    Yes. We currently deliver on a Wednesday to North Kessock, Munlochy and Culbokie.

BEFRIENDING

  • What is Befriending?
    Befriending is a way of providing support and companionship to people who are feeling isolated or disconnected from their communities or families. Clients are allocated to one of our volunteers who go out to visit them usually weekly. They are guided by what the client wants or is able to do so it can be anything from sitting in the house having a cup of tea together to going out for a drive.

  • How can I find out more information about the befriending service?

  • How can people be referred to the service?
    You can refer yourself or be referred by a relative, friend or health professional such as your GP. Just contact the Befriending Coordinator about referral.

INTERGENERATIONAL & GROUP ACTIVITIES

  • When and where do the Mix and Mingle session take place?
    Mix and Mingle afternoons take place weekly on Thursdays during school term time from 2-3:30pm, in the Fortrose Library.

  • What other group activities are available?
    We run regularly Community Cafes around the Black Isle - these are an opportunity for all sorts of people from local communities to meet together for coffee, home baking and great craic! Some of these events are organised in partnership with Fortrose Academy, whose students assist with running the cafe events. We are also developing more group activities in collaboration with Age Scotland and this will include fun, low-impact exercise sessions and "Body Bingo".

COMMUNITY LARDER

  • Who can use the Community Larder?
    The sharing shed is available for anyone in the community to use. Please feel free to both take from and donate to the larder. Or contact us if you require any further assistance.

  • What items are available in the Larder? 
    Larder food items such as tinned soups, pasta, rice etc and toiletries & sanitary products.
